H3 Game Sprites

An Agent Skill that converts generated move videos into keyed 2D sprite atlases

What it is

H3 Game Sprites is an MIT-licensed Agent Skill for turning AI-generated move videos into 2D game sprite sheets. Its workflow generates one short clip per move, removes a flat magenta background, selects pose extremes, and packs the frames into an atlas with one global scale and ankle-based anchors.

The repository includes gen_still.py for character and pose stills, sprite_cut.py for extraction, chroma keying, keyframe selection and loop detection, and build_atlas.py for packing consistently anchored frames. The local processing requires ffmpeg, Python 3, Pillow and NumPy; video and image generation are not pinned to one provider.

How to apply

  • Use it when a 2D prototype needs several repeatable character moves but filming and digitizing an actor is impractical.
  • Keep movement in the game engine and use the generated clips for poses; compare this 2D route with VARCO 3D before committing to a 3D asset pipeline.
  • Inspect keyed frames, return-to-idle error, foot drift and rendered canvas placement rather than trusting atlas metadata alone; the visual workflow sits alongside Image & Video Generation & Editing.
  • Install it in a skills-compatible coding agent such as Claude Code, then review every generated asset before integration.

Limits

  • The repository's roughly $5 per character, one-afternoon workflow and $0.60–0.70 per five-second clip are creator estimates that vary by model and provider.

  • The scripts and sample outputs were not executed during this ingest, so key quality, loop detection, atlas placement and engine compatibility remain unverified.

  • The MIT license covers the repository code; generation-provider terms and commercial rights for model outputs must be checked separately.

  • The repository had one commit and no releases when checked, so API stability and maintenance history are not established.
