Recordly

An open-source Mac recorder for polished demos with zooms, cursor effects and timeline editing

What it is

Recordly is a free, open-source Mac app for recording and editing product demos, walkthroughs, tutorials, and short social clips. It records microphone and system audio and can add a dynamic webcam bubble, automatic zooms, cursor smoothing, backgrounds, annotations, speed changes, and imported audio or webcam footage on a drag-and-drop timeline.

Projects can be saved as .recordly files and reopened for later editing. The official page lists MP4 and looping GIF exports and says there are no paywalls or hidden limits.

How to apply

  • Record a short product walkthrough, then use zooms, cursor treatment, annotations, and a webcam overlay to keep the key interaction legible without moving the edit into a separate video tool.
  • Export a looping GIF for a landing page or quick social post, or an MP4 for distribution through YouTube.
  • Compare Snapr when you need Windows support, scrolling screenshots, or its documented capture and annotation workflow.

Limits

  • Features, availability, and pricing were checked only against the official landing page on 2026-09-08 and were not independently verified by running the app.

  • The page exposes only a Mac download; Windows and Linux support were not confirmed.

  • The open-source license and commercial-use terms were not confirmed from the supplied URL.
